Beer Review: Roaster Coaster – BrewDog x Evil Twin Brewing

Rapidly returning to another BrewDog collaboration beer and likely the last one for a while. Got plenty of beers to get through and even a big ol’ delivery from Tiny Rebel coming soon. This collaboration brew is with Evil Twin Brewing, a Danish brewery with a large headquarters in New York. Together they’ve created the Roaster Coaster, a nitro, imperial, Vietnamese coffee stout. A mouth full to say but I can assure you right now it is also a mouth full of flavour.

Visually the beer is an incredible jet black, with a lovely tan head. As expected the nose is full of coffee but there are also strong notes of chocolate and cocoa making it an incredibly enticing beer. The flavour of this beer is simply amazing. It genuinely feels like you are drinking a cold coffee. The hints of chocolate really come through with a slight vanilla as well. The nitro gives the beer an amazing smoothness, verging on the point of slightly creamy, and also maintains the head all the way to the end. Each sip is packed with taste, and despite it being a whopping 9% ABV the bitterness of those coffee flavours masks the alcohol well in my opinion.

A quick note on the can art: As previously stated on this series, the colour scheme is typically good and the gold and dark blue this time is no exception.

Boy oh boy is this a cracking beer! So good even my mum liked it! It’s packed with well meshed flavours that really compliment each other. The nitro makes it lovely and smooth. It’s a filling beer, as stouts often are, but at 9% that’s perfectly fine and not a slight on the quality of the beer at all. I’ve never had a Vietnamese coffee, but after having this beer I certainly want to now. Very impressive collaboration from both breweries and definitely a beer worthy of my highest ever score. If this is the typical Evil Twin quality I will certainly be looking for more.

Score: 9.5/10

  1. Not a fan of stouts as a general rule but I make a huge exception for Siren’s ‘Broken Dreams’ which is exquisite. Sounds like this is cut from a similar cloth and I’ll definitely be checking it out.

      1. I bought a ‘variety pack’ of Siren a few years ago, which also had ‘Undercurrent’ ‘Liquid Mistress’ and the amazing ‘Soundwave’ but ‘Broken Dream’ still might have been my favourite even in that illustrious company. Found it at a beer festival more recently and it was still amazing.
