It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve done a low/no alcohol beer review. It has simply been a case of not being able to source anything interesting in the last couple of months! However, this beer peaked my interest as it is from a new brewery to me in Europe. To Øl is a Danish brewery and ‘Implosion’ is a 0.3% ABV. It hasn’t got a defined style of beer but I’d argue it’s a pale ale. I picked this up for the slightly dear price point of £3 from my local bottle shop Arch Rivals.
Visually the beer looks fantastic for a No/Low brew with a great hazy straw colour. Equally surprising was how well the beer retained its head. Lovely aroma with lots of papaya coming through and a touch of of citrus too. For a non alcoholic beer the body was fairly solid with a good mouthfeel. A strong hop bitterness throughout helped compliment the genuine fruity flavours. Smooth and easy drinking from start to finish.
A quick note on the can art: A rather relaxing colour gradient that feels like the opposite of something imploding. Compliments the contents of the can rather well I think.
This might be the most impressed I’ve been by a No/Low beer in complete honesty. While these beers are always going to be a tad thin, this still had a really good body to it. There was a wide depth of flavour from start to finish and the nose was fantastic as well. If I was the designated driver on a hot sunny day I’d happily drink a few pints of these all afternoon. If they were at an acceptable price point that is!
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
