Today sees us returning to Fourpure Brewing Co. and a review I have been very much looking forward to making. Previously, I reviewed Fourpure’s Easy Peeler which was the session version of today’s beer; Juicebox Citrus IPA. I was not the biggest fan of the Easy Peeler and thought it was way to bitter, so was excited to see if the original version would be any better!
Visually it’s a deep gold colour with a slight haze to it. Aroma wise it is, as you would expect, full of citrus notes but with a focus on orange peel. Very enjoyable smell. Flavour wise the beer is super hoppy and as such quite bitter. However, compared to the Easy Peeler where the bitterness was over bearing, the bitterness compliments the slight citrus notes as well as what I think is a hint of mango or another tropical fruit. There is good carbonation so the beer is getting pushed around the mouth, maximizing the flavour. Additionally at 5.9% ABV there really is no sign of the alcohol and drinks well!
A quick note on the can art: I really like the art here as I think it compliments the flavour of the beer very well. Hops wrapped around citrus fruit is definitely the vibe inside the can. A case of what you see is what you get!
Really glad I ended up trying this one second because this is substantially better than the Easy Peeler. This time around I can actually taste individual components rather than a constant bitterness. That said if you aren’t keen on super hoppy and bitter beers this is probably not going to be for you. Juicebox has made me super positive about trying more Fourpure beers in the future so I’d say that is a big win in my book!
