Beer Review: JAM – First Chop

Today’s beer is from Manchester gluten free beer OGs First Chop. This beer is actually from an Christmas present I got my Dad. I gifted him a gluten free beer advent calendar with explicit mention that I was not planning on reviewing any. Instead he generously has given me a taste of this one to do a write up. ‘JAM’ is a mango pale ale at a very sessionable 4% ABV and brewed with added mango.

Visually, looks very similar to a jar of orange marmalade! A fruity, punchy tropical aroma that’s very inviting. The added mango comes through well on the flavour in just the right amount. A light hop to the finish without an overbearing bitterness. Importantly it’s crisp and fresh making this very easy drinking.

A quick note on the can art: Nothing that exciting with these really. It’s the name and the description in a mango like colour.

A short and sweet review today but overall this beer is a really solid brew. This is such as sessionable beer. In the summer you could very easily sink a few of these in the sun. I think the added mango in the brew worked well to perhaps uplift the base flavour of the beer – which might have been lacking due to a lower ABV. Fresh nose and a tasty beer. I think Dad’s been enjoying his present so far…

Score: 7.5/10

Thanks for reading! Cheers!
