I was searching for a funky beer for a giveaway I’m running on my Instagram (check it out here if you like! https://www.instagram.com/lorenzobeerreviews/). I settled on this ‘Bueno Shake’ from Brighton based Unbarred Brewery, a 6.4% Milk Stout. The idea of a Kinder Bueno flavoured stout just seems like a match made in heaven so hopefully the high expectations I’ve built up for it are met!
The beer pours a jet black with a thick tan head. That head also dissipates slowly and the beer has good lacing around the glass. Easily one of the best smelling beers I’ve had by a mile. It’s like inhaling a jar of Nutella. Loads of hazelnut and chocolate. The initial taste is a classic stout with a slight roasted quality to it. However, the back-end is all Kinder Bueno. Smooth, velvety and really chocolaty.
A quick note on the can art: I really like the retro look to this can. It’s simple and effective and sort of reminiscent of of a Kinder Bueno.
Hands down one of the best stouts I’ve had. There are a lot of malts in there and I’m certainly not going to pretend that I’m even remotely able to taste each of them. But if all those have come together to make this beer taste like this without loads adjuncts, then that is seriously impressive. Nutty and chocolaty the added lactose gives a lovely smooth, creamy texture to the beer. Not sickeningly sweet either which is ideal. And like I said, the aroma is to die for. If I had one critique I’d say it tasted a little boozy despite not being super high in ABV.
Don’t forget if you’d like to win this beer and 5 others for a bit of holiday merriment head over to my Insta: https://www.instagram.com/lorenzobeerreviews/
