Beer Review: Galaxy IPA – Pretty Decent Beer Co.

Today’s review takes us back to my wonderful local brewery Pretty Decent who are still keeping up with producing a new brew a week! ‘Galaxy IPA’ is the third installment in their new Single Hop Series where they aim to highlight one specific hop. In this case it is of course Galaxy which is a variety from Australia. The second installment was all about Citra and I’ll hopefully have that review up soon. This brew comes in a 5.5% ABV.

Visually the beer pours a really inviting hazy, pale straw gold with a light white head. Lovely fruity nose to the beer full of pineapple and stone fruits on the nose with a slight grassiness too. There’s a nice orange or grapefruit tang to the body with a slight piney flavour mixed in as well. A soft moreish, hop bitterness from start to finish helps cap the beer off.

A quick note on the can art: I keep saying it but I enjoy the colour schemes more and more each time. I like the deep forest green on this one with the paint splats almost imitating the night sky.

So far, so very good for this single hop series. While I personally enjoyed the Simcoe IPA a little more, this is still a very good beer. I’ve actually never had Galaxy I don’t think or if I have I didn’t realise the individual flavours. I think single hop series are great as they showcase the plethora of distinct flavours you can get from just one hop variety. The beer is juicy and drinkable and there is a nice array of different aromas and flavours. I hope they continue this series further as I think it works really well.

Score: 8/10
