Tesco are going to have a fresh drop of new craft beer hitting their shelves sometime next week. In celebration I thought I’d finally get around to reviewing this beer from the previous release. ’15 Mile Round Trip’ is a double IPA brewed in collaboration between Vocation and soon-to-be brewery Sure Shot. The name of the beer actually has it’s own origin story too. It is in reference to a social media post made by a disgruntled customer towards the Tesco beer buyer, complaining about having to make a 15 mile round trip to a store only for none of the new beer to be in stock yet. This DIPA punches in at 8% ABV.

The beer pours an incredibly inviting, hazy pale gold with very little head to it. On the nose the beer smells like freshly squeezed mango juice. Tastes very much like it smells. Supremely juicy, almost mango smoothie like in flavour, with a little kick of booze as it goes down. There’s a nice hop to the body but the beer still has a nice smoothness to it. It’s quite a flat beer but I think it works very well because of the thickness in the body.

A quick note on the can art: A rather funky can design. The wavy lines remind me of using a sparkler or glow stick in the dark to make patterns or shapes.

I’ve not had a bad Vocation beer before today and this beer is absolutely no difference. Easiest way to describe the beer is as a boozy mango smoothie. While perhaps not as complex as other DIPAs it really is a solid brew. Super smooth drinking and I personally like the little bit of alcohol warmth. Currently Sure Shot is in the development stage and are currently not brewing their own beers. However, if this collaboration is a glimpse into what might be coming from them, I’m sold! I’m not sure many beers are worth a 15 mile round trip for but I’d definitely recommend picking this up the next time you’re in Tesco.
