I bought quite a few beers when I visited Cromarty Brewing Co. on Scotland’s Black Isle a couple months back. Combined with the mass of beers I already had and have subsequently added I recently enlisted the help of one of my best mates to get through some of the stock! Up first was ‘Not The Foggiest’ a session IPA from the folks at Cromarty. The previous couple beers I’ve tried from them have been cracking so was looking forward to this as well.
In spite of the name the beer is certainly hazy with a classic straw gold colour. The nose is pumping those tropical flavours to the forefront but with little touches of pine and grassy freshness mixed in too. On the front you get a taste of mango and pineapple. From start to finish you get a good hoppy bitterness ending with a little citrus bite. Solid levels of carbonation help push those flavours around the mouth and give them a little boost.
A quick note on the can art: Gorgeous artwork that provides a little slice of Cromarty. A fishing boat on the grass with a lobster/crab pot beside it and an oil rig in the background.
This is a really good session IPA. The juicy fruit flavours are incredibly well balanced with the bitterness. The body is fairly soft which makes the beer easy drinking. Exactly what you want from a session IPA. I thought the beers I picked up from the Cromarty Brewery shop were incredibly affordable at the time and now I know they are great value as well. Looking forward to tucking into the rest!
