Loch Lomond Brewery has become a bit of a staple in Lidl’s craft beer shelves. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed one of theirs but I’ve had some surprisingly amazing quality beers from the Lidl offerings. ‘Odin’s Beard’ is one the latest to grace the shelves and is a Citra IPA using Kviek Yeast and coming in at 5% ABV.
The beer pours a mostly clear hay-bale yellow. It was a very lively can pouring a big head that I had to let settle before I could take the photo! On the whole, the nose is fairly light and indistinct, although there is a slight sharpness to it. Again the body is fairly similar without much going on. There is a little grapefruit bitterness throughout. The Kviek yeast provides that distinct sharp twang adding an extra dimension to the beer. The carbonation helps maximise what there is by pushing the flavours around the mouth a bit more.
A quick note on the can art: A fairly clean can wrap if a little forgettable. Although the shade of green used is not one you see often.
Certainly not my favourite Loch Lomond beer by a long stretch which is a little dissapointing. It’s certainly not bad by any means and it’s an affordable craft beer to buy. It just doesn’t have too much going for it in the flavour department compared to other beers I’ve had from them. That said it is lovely and refreshing. If I was looking to sink a few pints of something inoffensive but tasty, this would certainly fill that void.
Score: 6/10
