Today’s beer review is on the second of two beers my wonderful girlfriend brought me back from Other Half while on her trip to New York. This was the one that I was really looking forward to trying from the moment she sent the menu to me at the taproom she was at. ‘Triple Mosaic Daydream’, as implied, is a triple IPA of the oat cream variety. For those who are not sure what an Oat Cream IPA is, they are a style of classic hazy beer with loads of added oats and lactose (or in this case milk sugar) which aims to get the body super soft and silky and give a sweetness to the beer as well. This one comes in at a bold 10.5% ABV.
The beer pours with a very deep haze and a lovely golden colour. A nice off-white head sits on what essentially looks like fruit juice in a glass. The aroma is pure tropical fruit medley with a mix of tangerine too. The body exactly what I was expecting going into this beer. Silky smooth, incredibly soft and with a lovely sweetness throughout. Lots of mango, apricot and pineapple flavours coming through as well as a light but balanced bitterness on the finish. Incredibly easy and dangerous drinking for a beer of this ABV.
A quick note on the can art: A nice and simple can wrap playing on the daydream name. I rather like that the clouds have a marbled pink reflective hue to them.
Wow! What a beer! I was very excited to try it and maybe it is my perception of the brewery and what they make hyping it up but I personally think it exceeded my expectations. One of the most drinkable and flavourful beers that I have ever had in my honest opinion. While a lot of people are understandably not a fan of lactose in IPAs, I personally think it works incredibly well here, particularly with the fruity flavours being provided by the two types of Mosaic. I’ve been daydreaming about trying this again since I finished the last drop of the can. Highly recommended if you can get your hands on it!
Score: 10/10
