My incredible girlfriend went to New York this year and brought me back a couple of beers from one of the USA’s, and even the world’s, most hyped and well known breweries in Other Half. They were founded in 2014 in Brooklyn and have quickly grown to add more locations in the state and further. The first of the two beers I tried was ‘Green City’ their flagship IPA. It is a double dry-hopped hazy IPA coming in at 7% ABV. In true American fashion there are no such things as session IPAs so I wasn’t too surprised to see their core beer coming in at such a punchy percentage.

The beer pours a super hazy, pale yellow colour with a large off-white head. The initial aroma is rather dank and a little boozy but then you get hit with a strong nose full of stone fruits and citrus. Silky smooth and soft body. The flavour is full of peach, hints of pineapple and a little grapefruit bitterness on the finish. Unsurprisingly, the you cannot even remotely taste the alcohol present, very easy drinking.

A quick note on the can art: The art pairs with the name. A green geometric piece of art depicting the city of New York. Where dreams, and evidently great beer, are made!

I do wonder, when drinking a beer from a brewery I’ve always wanted to try, whether there is inherently a degree of confirmation in bias in how much I’m going to enjoy it. Whether regardless of what it actually tastes like, I’m going subconsciously love it. Well even if that is the case, I’m fairly certain this is just a fantastically well brewed beer! There are a lot of great fruity flavour packed in that are balanced fairly spot on with the more bittering hop of Centennial so you’ve still got that fresh bite on the end. Underlying sweetness throughout is lovely and as mentioned an absolute silky smooth dream to drink! If you can get a can, don’t pass up on the opportunity.
