Beer Review: Florida Weisse – Thornbridge Brewery

Today’s beer review is from Midlands based brewery Thornbridge and their hazy raspberry sour: Florida Weisse.

It is important to preface this review by empahsising this is a sour beer, and as such will not be to everyone’s liking. However, saying that I would say that Thornbridge have created an incredibly balanced sour beer in the Raspberry Weisse that I think could be a great entry into the world of sour beers.

It has a lovely hazy, claret colour to it and the initial nose is packed full of raspberry. This is most certainly replicated in the taste of the beer where the raspberry comes through again. You also get a strong flavour of general summer fruits, particularity blackberries, giving that mixed berry medley taste. Naturally as a sour there is an element of tartness, but as mentioned it is balanced so as to not overpower the flavour and enjoyment of the beer.

A quick note on the can art: I personally am a big fan. It’s a stylistic design that I really like that I believe Thornbridge carry across their whole range, with colour variations for each beer.

If you’ve never tried a sour beer and are feeling adventurous and want to try a new style of beer I would highly recommend Florida Weisse. It is refreshing, flavourful and quite light at 4.5% ABV. If, like myself, you like sours and raspberries I’d argue you absolutely cannot go wrong with this one. Even better it’s part of Tesco’s 4 for £6 craft beer range!
