Returning to Tiny Rebel once again today, but with a first for the blog. Passion Fruit Pool Party is the first wheat beer I have reviewed and not a style I typically have. My main encounters with wheat beer is in the form of the widely available Blue Moon, which I am partial to every now and then. As such I was quite excited to get stuck in to this one!
Visually the beer is quite pale with a slight haze to it. Once again we are greeted with another amazing nose on a beer. As one would expect there are hints on passion fruit. Perhaps my favourite part of the nose are the notes of fresh lemonade hidden away giving it a really pleasant aroma. Flavour wise you get a good initial hit of hop and a nice fruitiness as well, really showcasing the IPA aspect of this beer. You can tell it’s still a wheat beer though with that classic rich, wheat finish. My main complaint with this beer is the very low carbonation for my preference. While the flavours are good the beer just sort of sits in your mouth.
A quick note on the can art: Has that typical Tiny Rebel style but probably my least favourite design so far. Maybe it’s the composition of the text, just doesn’t quite leap out at me like others.
I’m quite conflicted on this beer. It smells great and has quality flavour. However, the lack of carbonation is what doesn’t push this further for me. Originally I thought it may be an aspect of the style to have low carbonation and I’m just not familiar with it. However, I did a bit of research and wheat beers traditionally are quite highly carbonated. Naturally, a brewery is under no obligation to follow tradition but for my personal preference increased carbonation to help push those great fruity and wheat flavours around the mouth would have elevated it greatly.
Still refreshing and tasty. Perhaps if you like less carbonated beer it might be right up you alley!
