Beer Review: Pineapple Express – Tiny Rebel x Polly’s Brew Co.

Today’s beer is a Tiny Rebel collaboration with another Welsh brewery; Polly’s Brew Co. I’ve never had a Polly’s beer before but knowing Tiny Rebel I imagined it can only be good. I really like collaborations. It exposes you to new breweries and the beers tend to be really interesting as you get characteristics from both breweries imparted into the idea and importantly the flavour. This collab between the two is the Pinapple Express IPA coming in at 6.2% ABV.

The beer is a pale straw colour, with a haze to it. The aroma of the beer is fabulous frankly. The nose has incredibly strong pineapple juice notes, super fruity and enticing. The beer itself has a lovely juicy taste to it balanced well with a hoppiness reminding you it is an IPA. The two flavours mesh together giving a smooth finish to the beer and mask the high ABV quite well. Importantly it has higher carbonation than the Passion Fruit Pool Party I reviewed a couple days back, so those fruity flavours are pushed around the mouth much better.

A quick note on the can art: This has got to be my favourite Tiny Rebel design yet. The picture makes it hard to tell but the can is covered in cool, stylistic doodles of insects and plants. One to turn into a plant pot for sure!

This beer is a really good collaboration that certainly leaves me wanting to try some Polly’s Brew Co. beers. They’ve nailed the pineapple and balanced it pretty well with the hops. The perfect beer to just have one of, as it is 6.2% ABV and has a richness from the pineapple juice. I was worried I’d find an issue with low carbonation preventing the flavours from coming to life, but there was enough to make me happy! A definite recommend for anyone who likes pineapple!

Score: 8/10
