Heading for the ultimate throwback today with a beer that’s very similar, you could say, to the very first beer I did a review on! This is Clwb Tropica by Tiny Rebel with a slight twist; it’s non-alcoholic. You did read that correctly. Some say that Non-Alc beer is not really beer and I would be lying if I said this wasn’t the beer I was least looking forward to from my Tiny Rebel haul. However, I am a proponent of the phrase ‘every beer has its place’ and as always dove into this one with an open mind on a hot Saturday afternoon.

Visually, the beer has a fairly clear golden colour to it and producing a light, but decent, white head. The nose is incredibly similar to the original, with bold tropical notes coming through. Mango and pineapple in abundance. Most surprising is the taste. There is a fruitiness and hoppiness to it which is really lovely. The big issue, which is likely the issue with most AF beers, is the body is very thin, giving it a slightly watery mouth feel. I imagine this is why lactose has been added to it to try and bulk it up a bit. Despite that it’s still very refreshing, and of course, easy to drink.

A quick not on the can art: It’s a lighter take, colour wise, on the original Clwb Tropica. Plays off the original well and pleasing to look at, all good in my book!

Truthfully I expected very little from this. Previous Alcohol Free beers I’ve had have been a mixed bag. The bad ones are, in my experience, are much worse than the good ones are good. However, this is genuinely a decent substitute to the original. They’ve managed to get a hoppiness from the beer I wasn’t expecting and there is a lovely refreshing juiciness to it. I would happily drink this, at an affordable price mind you, if I was driving or fancied laying of the alcohol for the day. Very well done Tiny Rebel one of the better AF beers out there.
