Beer Review: Lumina – Siren Craft Brew

Trying to clear the beer review backlog today in time for Christmas as I recently bought a lot of craft beer online while a tad tipsy. Like going to the supermarket when your hungry, it’s never a good combination! So we’ve got a review double bill today and our second is from Siren Craft Brew.

I really like Siren and it’s been far too long since I’ve done a review on them. They released some beers into Morrisons in September but I was never able to get a hold of them. ‘Lumina’ however, is a beer released this year that I’ve had my eye on for ages. The latest member of their core range, that had a fantastic launch, I only found out recently is gluten free as a result of my Dad’s gluten free beer advent calendar. It’s a session IPA at 4.2% ABV.

Pours a really lovely, hazy straw colour with a light white head. On the nose you get great tropical notes, primarily pineapple chunks but with a touch of mango or passion fruit mixed in. A very light hop to the body allows it to live up to that session IPA style with touches of citrus knocking about. Supremely drinkable with a nice, crisp flavour.

A quick note on the can art: It is simply stunning. They released a special edition glass with this design and I’m kicking myself that I did’t pick it up!

It’s always fantastic for me to see breweries put a gluten free option into their core range. Even better when they are a solid brew. Although I find it a little thin, it’s a very good session IPA. All the tropical notes on the nose you could want and a fresh, clean drinking body with a moreish finish. If you found a pub with this on tap, you’d find yourself happily sinking a few.

Score: 7.5/10

Thanks for reading! Cheers!
