This is it! I’ve finally got around to picking up a Verdant Brewing Company beer. What is crazy is that despite going to university in Falmouth and Penryn, Cornwall (where these guys are based) I’ve never tried one of their beers! Having heard amazing things about them I picked one up from a little railway arch bar/restaurant turned bottle shop. This is ‘Reading Colour’ a 6.9% IPA
Pours a mango, tropical juice like colour with a very deep haze. The beer is stone fruit heavy on the nose. Full of apricot, with mango and pineapple mixed in as well. Flavour wise this beer is simply incredible. That peach and apricot comes through in abundance on the taste. The beer has a silky smooth mouth feel that makes it a joy to drink. The beer reminds you it’s still an IPA with a light hop bitterness throughout that is never overbearing. Juicy and masks the booze well in my opinion which makes this insanely drinkable.
A quick note on the can art: A fairly simple but effective wrap. The heat signature blends from warm to cool with the beer info on the darkest part on the back of the can.
This is potentially my favourite beer I’ve had this year so far, it really is gorgeous. I spent a decent chunk of change on it and was worried that as a result it would cloud my judgement. However, it really is my cup of tea in every way. Looks great, smells amazing and importantly tastes phenomenal. They’ve played with the hops so well to bring out those stone fruit flavours. There is an argument to be made that no can of beer is worth over £5 and I’m inclined to agree. But when a standard pint of lager in the pub can set you back about the same these days I’d also argue it’s worth the occasional treat to have a fantastic beer experience. Verdant have lived up to the hype so I will certainly try and grab another one soon.
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
