Beer Review: Lawless Village – Bellfield Brewery

Today’s beer is a lovely little gluten free number picked up from another bar under a railway arch. Seems to be the go to place to set a bar/restaurant at the moment! This beer is from a gluten free exclusive brewery Bellfield based up in Edinburgh, who only have a small core range. ‘Lawless Village’ is a 4.5% ABV IPA.

Pours a clear amber colour with a light rising carbonation. The aroma of the beer has quite a dankness to it with the hops coming through. The beer is super citrus in the taste, full of blood orange and grapefruit producing a smooth light bitterness throughout the beer. Not much of an overbearing bitter hop to the finish making it fairly easy drinking.

A quick note on the bottle art: Nice and simple. Lime green and pink ripples give it a distorted image vibe.

Bit of a shorter review today. ‘Lawless Village’ is certainly a solid IPA and it has won a couple of awards as well including a UK Winner, Speciality Beer at the World Beer Awards. It isn’t the most incredible beer experience but in a world of limited gluten free beer options this is a good choice. The citrus on the flavour is very prominent and provides a fresh, crispness to the beer. Dad said that while not his favourite he did enjoy it! I will see about grabbing him the rest of the range.

Score: 7/10

Thanks for reading! Cheers!
