Finally getting around to trying this beer I picked up from my local brewery, Pretty Decent Beer Company. Was actually meant to review this with a friend but I accidentally gave him a can of their Pilsner so unfortunately I will have to wait on doing that review! This is a recently new brew for them and is a can of their ‘Citra Sour’ coming in at a relatively light 3.7% ABV. It’s got no adjuncts and should hopefully let the Citra hop shine.
The beer pours straw gold in the glass with a very small head and a slight haze to the beer. On the nose, rather than a classic citrus aroma, you get one that is hoppy heavy with the Citra hop shining through well. The flavour of this beer is what you’d expect from one called ‘Citra Sour’. The beer is sharp on the taste to begin with but overall smooth drinking through out. Big flavours of grapefruit, and a little of lime, burst through and you’re left with an easy finish to the brew.
A quick note on the can art: Like a lot of other breweries they keep a similar theme for all their can designs. This has more of a green hue to the overall pallet.
It’s lovely having a brewery so close to where you live and it’s even better when they make cracking beer. I think the hop really is the star of this beer and all those citrus flavours are popping through. It’s not manically sour and the low ABV actually makes this a fairly drinkable sour beer. Gutted I accidentally let my pilsner slip away but I suppose it just means I’ll have to pop down again and pick up another!
