My one and only 10/10 beer was from Cornish brewers Verdant. Their Reading Colour IPA was absolutely stunning, so when the opportunity came around to pick up another of their beers, I didn’t hesitate. This is ’20 Watt Moon’ another IPA at 6.5% ABV. While I’m certainly not expecting perfection they’ve definitely set the bar high on the first try so I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have high hopes!
Visually the beer has a super hazy, straw colour to it with a big fluffy white head. Looks like a glass of juice in all honesty! An absolute tropical explosion on the nose with this beer. Packed full of pineapple, passion fruit and orange it is very inviting. A fantastically steady hop throughout bringing through punchy tropical flavours. A super soft mouthfeel leads into a brilliantly moreish bitterness on the finish.
A quick note on the can art: Stylistically very similar to ‘Reading Colour’. Big fan of how simple yet effective the design is. Fantastic use of colour.
Hot damn Verdant live up to the hype! This is another cracker in my books. The hops have once again been maximised to bring out all those lovely tropical flavours. Importantly, the hop level has been balanced to provide a seriously drinkable brew without compromising. Almost as good as ‘Reading Colour’ but not quite! Falmouth is one of my favourite places in the world so I look forward to hitting up Verdant’s Sea Food Bar in the not too distant future.
Score: 9.5/10
