Beer Review: YES – First Chop

My search for quality alcohol free craft beer for an ever so slightly drier January than usual continues with today’s beer. ‘YES’ from First Chop is vegan, gluten free and 0.5% ABV which on paper does sound like the most boring combo for a beer. However, it’s always good to have an open mind when it comes to beer as anything can surprise you.

A really good visual to the pour with a hazy, straw colour and a large, fluffy white head. Nailed on aroma with loads of tropical pineapple and zesty blood orange notes on the nose. While the body is sadly on the thin side there is a surprisingly solid flavour there. A nice level of citrus hop throughout the main body of the beer. Crisp and refreshing drinking.

A quick note on the can art: First Chop as always keep a theme. The peach colour for the writing on the white background is super clean.

It’s a very surprising YES from me in regards to this beer. While it is certainly on the thin side, which is almost always the case with AF beers, there is a really good base of flavour there for me. A lovely clean hoppy bitterness from start to finish. It actually got better the more I drank in my opinion. The best bit however is by far the aroma as they have genuinely got that spot on for the IPA style they are going for here. As always the rating is in relation to other alcohol free beers but this is genuinely one of my favourites and I’d certainly have it again.

Score: 8/10
