I’m running unfortunately low on No/Low Alcoholic craft beer at the moment but I’m still determined to test out what is available. As such today I’ve gone for an own brand low alcohol brew. From The Hop Foundry (a.k.a another of ALDI’s plethora of craft beer brands) this is ‘Low Profile’ a 0.5% ABV IPA.
The beer pours a clear gold with a very quickly dissipating head. There is a slight fruity aroma to the beer which is promising. However, that promise, much like the head, disappears quickly when it comes to the flavour. Incredibly thin and very little discernible flavour for my tastes. Perhaps the most accurate description would be a lager shandy but instead of lemonade you used tap water.
A quick note on the can art: I quite like the can actually. Another ALDI riff on old BrewDog branding. I like the fairly clean the design and the reflectivity of the silver.
Now that I’ve tried a few different craft and macro low alcohol beers I feel I am able to appreciate better when one is done well and has had some thought and care put into it. Equally I now know when one is bad. ‘Low Profile’ is bad. While I can’t fault it for living up to it’s name I can wholeheartedly say this isn’t a good low alcohol IPA. Way to thin, lacks any real flavour and I found my fairly flat as well. It’s actually the first time I’ve not finished the beer and tipped half of it down the sink. I would prefer a glass of ice water over this. Poor effort from ALDI on this one sadly.
Score: 1.5/10
