The lovely summer weather has been blessing us recently and my local brewery Pretty Decent has been pumping out some new beers to enjoy in the sun! This beer is very interesting in that it is the first Pretty Decent beer I’ve seen given an actual name: ‘The Good Things To Come’. It’s the first year the brewery has taken part in the International Women’s Day Collaborative Brew, which aims to celebrate women in the beer industry. It was conceptualised and brewed by the ladies of Pretty Decent and the result is a Kiwi and Lime Sour at 4.2% ABV.
Visually, the beer pours a pale gold with a surprisingly large and well formed white head. The nose it packed to the brim with lime and a touch of the kiwi as well. That initial taste is lovely and tart with a heavy hit of the lime zest coming through. The body is refreshing and crisp with a malty, bready finish on the end. Despite that initial sharpness it slips down nice and easy for a sour.
A quick note on the can art: A very different look to the usual designs of Pretty Decent beer cans. I really like the rainbows of kiwi and lime. A standout from their other beers.
I’d say this is one of my favourite beers these folks have produced. While I would personally have liked stronger kiwi flavours on the body it’s still got that zippy, refreshing sourness that’s ideal for drinking in the summer sun. I think the biggest testament to it’s quality is that I’ve bought this regularly since it’s release and enjoyed it thoroughly every single time. Might have to squirrel some away for when the hot months rear their head.
Score: 9/10
