Beer Review: You Had Me At Hazy – Nightjar Brew Co

Today’s beer comes from a new brewery for me! Nightjar Brew Co. is based in Hebden Bridge and is in fact a rebrand and continuation of a previous brewery known as Slightly Foxed. When there are so many breweries about at the moment, I particularly enjoy trying one of the many I haven’t heard about. ‘You Had Me At Hazy’ is a Double dry-hopped IPA at 5.9% ABV brewed with added oats for a creamier mouthfeel!

Visually, the beer pours a hazy straw gold colour with a nice, dense white head. On the nose you get some classic aromas with pineapple and citrus fruits coming through quite prominently. The body of the beer is soft and juicy with a lovely mellow, tropical flavour. There is a steady hoppy bitterness throughout the beer before leaving you a nice crispy, hoppy bite on the finish.

A quick note on the can art: A rather unique and funky art style for the can wrap. Bright and colourful design, which was one of the main reasons I picked it up in the first place!

A lovely first dip into Nightjar and their beers. It’s not a beer that reinventing the style but it is certainly a very solid IPA. The double dry-hopping is evident with the beer having that slight crunch from start to finish. The added oats certainly produced the intended effect of a soft mouthfeel. It’s easing drinking, flavoursome and refreshing which is what you really want, at the end of the day, from a hazy IPA. After a quick browse of their online shop Nightjar appear to brew a decent amount of interesting sounding beers that I would certainly not be opposed to trying in the future!

Score: 7.5/10
