It was the wonderful month of October, so naturally Lidl have a couple of Oktoberfest themed beers out. If you’ve followed my blog for a little bit you’ll also know that I love an own-brand beer review so I couldn’t help but buy both. First up is the Wheat Beer. I was very curious to see how it was executed but being as though Lidl are a German company I had some faith they could pull it off. I think it is also interesting to see that they’ve not branded with a fake craft beer company, which they typically do with most of their beer offerings.
Visually the beer has a cloudy gold-brown hue to it with a rather nice, dense white head. The aroma of the beer is that of ripe bananas. Quite a strong clove flavour to the body, which is what you expect as the standard from a wheat beer. Refreshing and light overall.
A quick note on the can art: It’s fine for a quick cheap can I suppose. Although the woman on the front is oddly drawn I think.
In all honesty I think this is a pretty decent wheat beer. While there isn’t much to talk about in terms of complexity it hits all your typical Weissbier notes which is all you can really ask for. Easy drinking and with a good flavour. This might genuinely be the best Lidl own-brand beer I’ve tried!
Score: 6/10
