I’ve got quite a few Verdant Beers in my fridge at the moment, which is a great problem to have as their beers are consistently fantastic. I like to grab their beers when I can simply because they are based in the same town I went to University in: the wonderful Falmouth in Cornwall! ‘Headband’ is one of their more recognizable beers and is regularly re-brewed. It is a classic pale ale, featuring four different hops, and comes in at 5.5% ABV.
The beer pours a hazy burnt orange colour with a solid off-white head. The nose is giving all the classic aromas of a New England style beer. Lots of pineapple and peach with hints of grapefruit as well. The body of the beer is loaded with fruity flavours from the Citra and Mosaic hops. The pineapple chunk and mango come through in spades providing a lovely sweetness. This is then brilliantly balanced with a citrus hop bitterness (thanks to Chinook and Columbus) on the back end of the beer.
A quick note on the can art: A gorgeous, vibrant can design. I get a slightly psychedelic vibe from the can wrap which I think has created an iconic and recognisable design.
Verdant, as I mentioned, consistently good based on the beers I have tried from them. ‘Headband’ is no different. There are a ton of flavours packed into this beer that balance and bounce off each other very well. If I was to have a personal criticism, the body was a touch thin for a 5.5% beer, so while it tasted juicy it didn’t feel juicy in the mouth. That said it is very light and easy drinking making for a great sessionable beer. Looking forward to the other Verdant’s in the beer fridge!
