Morrisons have a massive new craft beer range out at the moment! At my local store I could only pick up the BrewDog and Northern Monk brews (worse problems to have I know!) but hopefully they’ll do some rotation and the other fantastic looking beers will start creeping in. There’s been a slight price bump in the beers from £3 to £3.50/£4 a can. It might put some people off but if the quality of the beer is better than I think it’s the right direction potentially.
Anyway first up from the new range I’ve gone for one of the new Northern Monks. This is ‘Transient’ a Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA coming in at a fairly high 7.4% ABV. Northern Monk have typically been ridiculous consistent in making quality beers, even for the supermarkets, so with the price increase I’m expecting a good showing!
Appropriately it pours an incredibly deep hazy with unfiltered pineapple juice vibes. Looks gorgeous in the can. There’s an awesome level of dankness on the nose. You get the dry hop on the aroma straight away with a hoppy tropical smell. The flavour is tropical all the way with a heavy but pleasant hop to it. It hides the booze really well and the only thing stopping this from being dangerously drinkable is the heavy hop to the finish. Added oats also gives it a creamy, smooth mouthfeel.
A quick note on the can art: As always the art is as good as the beers! Really like the almost ethereal vibe given to the valley in the art. Amazing colours that are simply gorgeous.
I still don’t think I’ve had a bad beer from the folks from up north. ‘Transient’ is simply cracking, just so full of flavour it’s hard to believe you can grab this in the shops. It is four quid a can but if you pick it up as a one off treat it’s certainly worth it. I’ve got a couple more of the new Northern Monk beers and I simply cannot wait to tuck in.
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
