Today’s review is another heavy hitter ABV wise. I’ve returned to another of the Fourpure ‘Globetrotter’ which have been simply amazing in my opinion. Very creative beer ideas that have been executed well. This one is ‘Castaway’ a Mai Tai Double IPA coming in at a massive 8% ABV. I like the idea of cocktail inspired beers and I think the orange citrus of Mai Tai might lend itself well to an IPA.
Visually the beer is orange marmalade in colour with a decent haze as well. High ABV leaves a small, quickly dissipating white head. On the nose there is genuine orange or blood orange notes. On the front end of the beer that orange comes through again. Genuinely reminds me of the cocktail if a little drier. Much like yesterday’s review the booze is hidden fairly well with a hoppy finish preventing this for being dangerously drinkable. ‘Castaway’ is really well carbonated so those flavours push around the mouth.
A quick note on the can art: A quite literal can wrap this time with a castaway fishing. Perhaps not as nice as the others from the series but still very nice.
This is turning in to a very solid bundle. I really enjoyed the strength of the orange that came through on both aroma and the taste giving a really juicy flavour to this DIPA. The ingredients show the addition of almond but not sure of that had any impact at all on the flavour. The two beers from the bundle left are both sours hopefully they’ll be as good as the other four have been.
Score: 8/10
