As I mentioned in my previous North Brew Co review, Tesco have a few of their beers in at the moment. Today’s beer is called ‘Lost Cosmonaut’. It’s a double dry hopped IPA at 6.0% ABV. The North beers I’ve had so far have been solid and certainly tasty but not incredibly stand out. Here’s to hoping a bit of dry hopping will change that perception for me.
Pours a gorgeous straw coloured beer with a deep haze and a thick white head. An absolutely incredibly nose on the beer packed full of clementine and tangerine aromas. Very inviting. Those smells are seen in the body with the dry hopping maximising flavours very well, while giving it tastes of tropical fruits in addition. There’s a soft lingering bitterness on the end that is complimentary, allowing the flavours to rest for a moment. Furthermore, a good carbonation level allows those flavours to work their way around the mouth.
A quick note on the can art: I love the the simplistic yet abstract design on this North can. The black background ties in well with the beer name I think.
This is the one! What a fantastic beer from the folks up in Leeds. Once again proving that the supermarkets are upping their game when it comes to stocking craft beers. Added oats give a slight thickness to the texture that works well with the hop level. I’d argue that some might not like the style of bitterness in the beer and that aspect of a brew is often very subjective. The flavour is great but the standout aspect has got to be that nose. Like inhaling a glass of orange juice, almost. This beer has me tempted to join their monthly beer club!
