Been a couple of days since my last review. The pubs are opening back up in London today so I’ve been slightly swamped at work. Today’s review is going to be from the fantastically consistent Leeds based Northern Monk. ‘Scafell’ is a NEIPA and a twist on one of their core beers ‘Striding Edge’ (which I am yet to try). Apparently a slight issue arose when the name of the beer infringed on a beer from small outfit Hesket Newmarket Brewery. However, it has been all sorted and some of the money from this beer is going to them, to keep supporting them during these tough times.
Pours an awesome pale straw with a a deep, deep haze. It’s got a classic New England IPA nose packed to the brim with tropical aroma. Mango and pineapple at the forefront with hints of blood orange as well. Brilliant case of tastes like it smells, with the hops bringing the full array of tropical flavours into a soft body for this beer. Finish is a light, moreish bitterness.
A quick note on the can art: You know me by now, I love Northern Monk can designs. Great colours with a slight silvery hue on the backdrop of the great Scafell Pike.
Tesco have secured themselves a fantastic beer for their shelves. At 6.5% ABV this is dangerously drinkable as the American hops used burst full of flavour. It’s never a surprise when I end up loving a Northern Monk beer as 95% of the time they are a stone cold stunner. Added oats provide a lovely creaminess that compliments the overall flavours very well. A massive recommendation from me!
