The old man really enjoyed Bellfield Brewery’s ‘Lawless Village IPA’ so when he saw they had an offer for a mixed case of their gluten free beers he did not hesitate. Perhaps the most anticipated brew of the bunch was ‘Daft Days’ a 5.5% ABV porter. Dark beers seem to be in short supply in the gluten free beer sector and despite all his attempts at getting one, this will be Dad’s first gluten free porter!

Pours an aubergine like colour with a light tan head. On the nose there is light coffee aroma but nothing too pungent. The beer itself has a nice light coffee taste. Despite not having added lactose, it has a smooth, milkiness to both the texture and taste. Really nice finish to the beer with a chocolate, mocha coffee vibe providing a soft bitterness.

A quick note on the can art: Same as many of their other cans. This has gone for a lilac and purple combo.

If it was up to my Dad to give this a score, I think he’d give it would be very high. Simply for the virtue that it has given him the opportunity to have a style of beer he’s not been able too for years. Now, that said, I think this is a very solid porter. The finish is my favourite part of the beer for sure, reminding you of a cold brew mocha. It’s silky smooth and has decent flavour. For a porter I think it’d be nice for a tad more smokiness mixed in. Overall, if you are gluten intolerant and are missing your Guinness fix, this will sort you right out.
