Been dipping into some of my ‘fancier’ beers the last couple of days and this is another one from the folks at Premier Hop. A new brewery again today in the form of Bang the Elephant from Langley Mill near Nottingham. I know you should never judge a book by the cover but I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t pick it up for the stunning artwork. ‘Odissa’ is a 6% ABV East India Pale Ale.
Visually the beer reminds you of a classic scrumpy cider, with that cloudy burnt orange look to it. Nice, fluffy white head as well. A punchy citrus nose on the beer full of tangerine and grapefruit. There is a very nice level of hop through out that leads into good bitterness on the finish. A surprisingly soft mouthfeel with a lovely freshness and crispness to it as well.
A quick note on the can art: As I’ve mentioned I think it’s simply stunning. It might be the best artwork I’ve seen on a beer can with contrasting holographic aspects. I’ve even included two different shots of the can to do it justice. This lovely design was created by Lewis Ryan.
What a cracking little IPA to contrast the one I had yesterday from Cloudwater. The level of bitterness wasn’t overbearing and complemented the citrus notes brought out on the both the nose and flavour very well. A classic moreish finish. Smoother than anticipated as well. I’ve also got a very interesting stout from Bang the Elephant to try and after this beer I can’t wait to tuck in.
Score: 8.5/10
