Beer Review: DDH Hooked on Citra – Cloudwater Brew Co.

Today’s review is from my Premier Hop Subscription order I made just before Christmas. Cloudwater Brew Co is a brewery I’ve seen have a lot of praise heaped on them for making fantastic beers. Based up in Manchester I decided on ‘DDH Hooked on Citra’ as my first taste. Naturally this beer is a Double Dry Hopped IPA with focus on the Citra hop. It comes in at a suitable 6% ABV as well.

Visually pours a super hazy, pale straw colour. Looks almost like a cloudy apple juice. An absolute tropical explosion on the nose with a medley of pineapple and mango mixing with peaches and punchy citrus notes as well. The flavour certainly lives up to the hype in the aroma! You get a great creamy front end reminiscent of peaches and cream which is then perfectly balanced with the citrus hop bitterness of the finish. Super soft mouthfeel that keeps you coming back for another sip.

A quick note on the can art: Photography for this one. Taken by Paul John it’s a photo of hop bines being hooked up to a hop picking machine. A nice visual, behind the scenes insight into what goes in a beer.

Hands down this has got to be one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Complexity in the flavour is there throughout and the main body is perfectly balanced with a very moreish bitter back end. Silky smooth drinking, creamy and not remotely boozy. It’s one of those beers that gets better as you drink because as it warms slightly those flavours are released further. I will admit this did not last long and I desperately want to get hold of another. An incredible introduction to Cloudwater.

Score: 10/10
