Beer Review: Gelos – Alpha Delta x Drop Project

Today’s beer is another that I grabbed from Premier Hop. The only other Alpha Delta beer I’ve had was technically a Northern Monk collaboration. However, it was absolutely delicious and I’ve been on the hunt to get an Alpha Delta beer from the source itself! ‘Gelos’ is actually a collaboration as well but brewed by Alpha Delta in partnership with a new brewery for me in the form of Drop Project. It’s a hefty 7.2% ABV IPA highlight Strata, Citra & Nelson hops.

An incredible deep haze to this beer with a straw gold almost pineapple juice like colour. A big fluffy head on the pour that maintained well as I drank. A really complex and fruity nose with everything from tropical to citrus and even peach or apricot notes too. The flavour is more subdued in comparison but there is a strong steady hop throughout the body. Extremely soft mouthfeel and a moreish bitter finish.

A quick note on the can art: The design for the can wrap was done by graphic designer Jimmy Turrell. A really funky can design using a collage. A little bit surreal which I like.

In Greek mythology Gelos is the divine personification of laughter and this beer certainly put a smile on my face. The highlight is that incredibly soft texture which gives it a dangerously drinkable quality and masks that high ABV level very well. The hops in the body bring out a peaches and cream style of flavour that doesn’t live up to the hype on the nose but is still very tasty. A really great collaboration and I will certainly be grabbing more Alpha Delta in the future!

Score: 8.5/10
