The pubs are back open!!! Which means I’ve been flat out the last couple of days at work and the reviews are coming a bit slower. As such I thought I’d revisit a simpler beer from Aldi’s Hop Foundry range. I recently tried their ‘Sharp Tongue‘ Grapefruit Pale Ale. Disappointing would be the polite way to describe that beer. ‘One of the worst beers I’ve ever had’ was the way I described it. As such I’m not holding out much hope for the other three beers in the series. ‘We’re Jamming’ is aiming to be a Strawberry Lager at 4.5% ABV and will perhaps nail the fruit aspect of the beer better than ‘Sharp Tongue’ did.
Visually the beer looks like a classic lager with a clear, amber hue to it. The nose unfortunately has that similar dishwater aroma to it with perhaps the tiniest hint of artificial strawberry. The taste for me is, somehow, exponentially worse than the smell. There is almost no flavour at all on the body. The finish is this incredibly overbearing sharpness with an unpleasant artificial sweetness mixed in making it almost undrinkable for me personally.
A quick note on the can art: Very similar to the other entries in the series. Pop art style strawberries with a hazy filter on the front. I actually don’t mind this aspect of the beer.
An insult to the Bob Marley song that the name for this beer was taken from. This is perhaps the worst beer that I’ve ever tried. I’ve always supported that beer is very subjective and what one person might love to bits, another might think is an awful brew. I truly believe that this beer is making a solid case for having no redeeming qualities and I would need serious convincing if a person told me they enjoyed drinking this. While I know these beers are contract brewed on a budget, the brewer cannot be pleased with the end product. It simply isn’t craft beer. Give me a nice cold pint of Amstel or Heineken over this any day of the.
