Beer Review: Elvis Impersonator – Brass Castle Brewery

Hitting up Stout Sunday with another beer from the folks at Brass Castle Brewery. My Dad was treating himself to an order recently from Taylor’s Gluten Free Beer Network and I asked him if he could tack on this weird beer for me. ‘Elvis Impersonator’ is a Banana, Facon (fake bacon) and Peanut Butter Porter rocking up at 6.7% ABV. Of course, the beer is gluten free, but surprisingly they’ve made it vegan as well!

The beer pours an almost jet black with a beige head. Insanely good aroma that is very reminiscent of banoffee pie in all honesty. Loads of peanut butter and banana for sure. The flavour is heavy on the peanut butter from the get go. Genuine banana taste rather than the artificial banana sweetness given to some confectioneries. There is perhaps a touch of the savoury bacon added too but it isn’t particularly strong. Smooth drinking finish and hides the booze well.

A quick note on the can art: It’s simply great really. Can’t go wrong with a silhouetted Elvis Presley on the can.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to think about this beer originally but it is an insanely good porter. The core flavours of the peanut butter and the banana come out in full force and compliment each other, while balancing well with the porter aspects. The banana, as mentioned, tastes genuine and not overly fake and sweet. The fake bacon seasoning is the aspect that had lthe least impact but it in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this. Silky smooth and easy drinking this would be a solid dessert option after a nice meal. One of my favourite Brass Castle beers for sure.

Score: 9/10
