Beer Review: Midnight Stack – Siren Craft Brew

It’s been far too long since I last had a beer from the trusty folks over at Siren Craft Brew. They had their eight anniversary not too long ago and while I would’ve have loved to have taken part I already own far too much beer to justify buying more. Instead I’ve gone for ‘Midnight Stack’ a Maple Pancake Milk Stout that has been Nitro infused. It’s also part of the new Beer Hawk collaborative range in Sainsbury’s much like my previous review.

The beer pours a midnight black colour letting zero light through. The nitro gives the beer a perfect head without any trouble at all. There is a lovely subtle nutty sweetness on the nose with a touch of coffee too. The body itself is also very subtle with touches of chocolate, coffee and importantly the maple syrup. The nitro makes this smooth drinking from start to finish with a little biscuity note on the end.

A quick note on the can art: I’ve missed Siren’s abstract designs. Does it give any idea of what to expect in the can? Probably not but it stands out clear as day on the supermarket shelves.

Oh Siren you never disappoint me! What a really fantastic stout. Going into this I was honestly expecting to have an overly sweet and rich stout that missed the maple syrup completely. However, they’ve subdued the sweetness to a point where it is complimenting the rest of the beer really well rather than overpowering it. This brew also uses a variety of wood interestingly. I think this is where the nutty aroma is coming from on the nose. It’s a light beer at 4.2% but it’s got a decent body and honestly goes down very easily. I do love me a Siren brew!

Score: 8.5/10
