It’s Wednesday everybody and as such I’ve gone for an appropriately named beer. ‘Big Wednesday’ is an IPA from Harbour Brewing who are another new brewery for me! They are based out of Bodmin in Cornwall. Those who know me, know that simply being based in Cornwall increases the chance that I will love the beer! It comes in at 5.6% ABV and I picked it up for a relatively cheap price in Morrisons.
The beer pours a really appetising hazy, marmalade colour with a snow white head on top. A classic IPA aroma with light tropical and fruity notes. A solid juicy flavour to the body with mango and pineapple chunks making their way to the forefront. Added oats to the beer give it a great creamy and soft mouthfeel. The hop level is on the lighter side making for slick and easy drinking.
A quick note on the can art: It’s not a crazy design but it is very clean and visually uncluttered. Simple but effective I think.
All jokes aside about my love for Cornwall this is a surprisingly impactful little beer. While the flavours are all light and not ‘in your face’ they come through clearly and aren’t being lost by an overly hoppy bitterness. At £1.85 a can or 4 for £6 I think these are great value. Whether you’re having a naughty midweek session or a treating yourself to a post work tipple on a Wednesday night I think this wouldn’t be a bad choice. It’s very drinkable and rather sessionable for a 5.6% beer.
Score: 7.5/10
