Since pubs have reopened I’ve only just managed to make it down to my awesome local brewery Pretty Decent. They’ve been knocking out the beers at their usual weekly rate so I had a few to catch up on. This brew saw them return to their Single Hop Series with the featured hop being the ever reliable Mosaic. This beer actually sold out in record time at the brewery itself so I had to pop down to a local off licence to purchase one from their stock! It’s an IPA at 5.8% ABV.
Visually, the beer pours a supremely hazy straw gold colour with a dense white head. A really lovely and pungent aroma of melon with a sharp citrus grapefruit mixed in too. Comparatively the flavour isn’t as intense. There is a tangerine sweetness to the front end of the body before finish off with a solid hop bitterness. Juicy, refreshing and drinkable.
A quick note on the can art: The illustrator for Pretty Decent has gone for an interesting little twist on the usual cans with what reminds me of confetti or those retro designs you used to get on coaches!
It’s good to be having a delicious Pretty Decent beer. As I mentioned the nose on this beer is fantastic and I’d probably go as far as to say it’s the best smelling beer from these guys. While I don’t think the flavour lived up to the hype of the nose I think the mellow clementine/pomelo flavour is still incredible refreshing. It’s a beer that slips down easy and I can certainly see why it sold out as quick as it did. This Single Hop Series continues to impress in my books with stripped back version of IPAs done right. Bring on the next one.
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
