Beer Review: Little Mountains We Move – Verdant Brewing Co.

I bought a selection of beers from a fantastic zero waste and bottle shop in Leytonstone, East London called Stone Mini Mart who have an insane range of craft beers at very reasonable prices compared to others I’ve seen. First up from this selection is another beer review from Cornwall’s premier top of the hops brewery Verdant, based down in Falmouth. ‘Little Mountains We Move’ is a Cold IPA brewed with a host of hops including fan favourites Citra and Simcoe. Coming in at 6.4% ABV the Cold IPA style is not something I’ve really had before. A quick bit of research tells me tells me it is an IPA fermented at a lower temperature as you might expect aiming to showcase the hop profile but giving it a crispier body.

Visually, the beer has a light golden pour with a slight haze to it and a quickly dissipating head. Very fruity nose with an interesting blend of both citrus and stone fruits on the aroma. The body has juicy, tropical flavour on the front end before transitioning to a sharper, but very refreshing bitterness, on the finish. The beer also has a solid carbonation to it which helps push the flavours around and provides a tang in the mouth.

A quick note on the can art: A very interesting geometric design on the can wrap. A multi-layered almost three-dimensional shape with each side having a different image of a mountain. I also like how the different words in the name are joined by a dotted line. Clean design.

Verdant rarely disappoint with the quality of their beer. Rather than the usual juice bomb, New England style IPAs I’ve had from them this is a cleaner, crisper and drier beer much better suited to a hot summers day than your classic NEIPAs. That said I also don’t think it’s my favourite Verdant beer and think it could do with more flavour although perhaps that’s me getting accustomed to this Cold IPA style. Either way a solid beer that much like all beers from Verdant, masks its booze well!

Score: 7.5/10
