It’s Lorenzo Beer Reviews’ one year anniversary today! I’ve had an absolute blast writing on this blog for the past year so thank you to everyone who has read one of my posts. Here’s to another year of drinking far too much beer! Instead of going for a big, expensive hype beer I thought I’d stick to my roots and try one from Lidl’s ongoing beer festival. This is 71 Brewing Co.’s ‘Gear Shifter’. It’s a single hop Citra IPA at 5% and one of the beers I was most looking forward to from the range in Lidl.
Visually, the beer is a clear amber on the pour that gets hazier once you tip in the bottom of the can. There is a little touch of sediment. The nose is lovely and fresh with a solid grapefruit aroma to it. The flavour of the brew is crisp and refreshing with lots of grapefruit and a touch of pineapple mixed in too. Rounds off with a good hoppy bitterness to compliment the body.
A quick note on the can art: 71 Brewing are very consistent with their can designs. Putting the initials of the beer name next to the logo is their trademark. The green works well considering it is a Citra IPA.
The Scottish brewers have put out another solid brew into the Lidl beer fest! For a single hop Citra beer their is a fairly decent level of complexity with a bit more going on than just citrus flavours. The bitterness on the finish is steady and not astringent making for an easy drinking IPA overall. At £1.79 a can it is certainly beer that I can recommend picking up. Thank you again for the support on the blog and keep your eyes peeled as their might be a little giveaway cropping up soon!
