Beer Review: Strata & Mosaic – Pretty Decent Beer Co.

Today I’m returning back to my local brewery with their other latest release. It’s an IPA featuring Mosaic, once again, but with the headlining hop being Strata this time, rather than Sabro. This is one of Pretty Decent Beer Co’s strongest beers of late, coming in at 6.5%. When I spoke to them about this beer the other the day they were very happy with the result. They also said if I enjoyed the Sabro beer, there would be a good chance I’d enjoy this one even more!

Visually, the beer has a similar colour to their other multi-hop release. Incredibly hazy, with a straw-like colour to it that the light in the picture doesn’t do justice. Lovely, light and fruity aroma with stone fruits and mango on the finish. The main body of the beer has a similar flavour to the nose with a mix of peach and tropical fruits. There is also a rather pleasant sweet undercurrent to the beer. A light hop persists throughout and rounds of on a soft, bitter finish.

A quick note on the can art: As always the can designs are fairly similar. This once again uses the confetti style. The background is actually a rather nice yellow that isn’t coming up well in my photo.

I think the folks down at the brewery might be right: this just edges out the previous beer for me even if not by much. It’s juicy and very soft drinking. I personally think that the 6.5% ABV is masked incredibly well and you only get a hint of it on the finish. I actually found that the flavours got better as the beer warmed up, with the mango and peach notes becoming more prominent. The two beers are very different so this isn’t a comparison. I just think I could have more pints of this beer in one sitting! A lovely brew and one you might be seeing make an appearance in a giveaway in the near future…

Score: 8.5/10
