It’s been far too long since I’ve uploaded a review. I’ve had a rather busy week at work and I also headed out of London for a couple of days to see some friends (and drink some beer)! The weather is scorching right now which means it’s time to crack open the lagers. This one is from Scottish brewers Fierce Beer and it’s their core range Pilsner. Coming in at 4.2% ABV it also happens to be both vegan and gluten free!
Visually, the beer has that classic lager colour. Clear amber with a nice carbonation rising up to a snow white head. The nose is malty sweet with a slight dryness to it. Flavourwise, the beer is dry, crisp with a good malty flavour. The bitterness is balanced out well with a nice sweetness and the carbonation pushes the flavours around well.
A quick note on the can art: What looks like a rhino in a spacesuit. Fierce often have animals in strange outfits on their core range cans. I’m a fan personally.
I don’t usually do lager reviews on here. It’s not that I don’t enjoy lagers, on the contrary, I often sink a few Calsberg’s in my local. However, I find that most craft breweries don’t bother with a lager. I think it’s because it’s hard making them standout from those mass market beers enough to justify that craft beer price point. This beer from Fierce though is a very solid craft lager. Crisp, clean and refreshing with a really decent depth of flavour to boot. In terms of gluten free lager options, this smashes the boring bottles you can get in your local supermarket. Slipped down easy in the sunshine the other day.
Score: 7/10
