Today’s review is another beer that I picked up in Tesco recently. I’ve had a couple of Brew By Numbers beers before but have never done a review on the South East London based brewery’s wares. 05 is the name for their IPA’s and this one has been hopped with the classic, Citra, as well as Amarillo. It’s a rather boozy beer for the supermarket, coming in at 6% ABV.
Visually the beer pours a hazy straw colour with a large foamy, white head to it. There is a light, juicy aroma to the beer with orange citrus being the prominent smell with a touch of pineapple mixed in too. The body of the beer has an initial softness to it that leads into a dry, hoppy bitterness on the finish. The flavour is predominantly citrus but the Amarillo is bringing a hint of mango to the taste as well.
A quick note on the can art: It’s not some crazy art piece but I think the design works very well. Stands out and is instantly recognisable as a BBNO beer.
A very solid offering from Brew By Numbers in Tesco. I’d describe the overall beer as refreshing rather than bold. The flavours are on the more subtle side and don’t particularly stand out. However, the beer is crisp and drinkable with only a little touch of that booze coming through. BBNO is a brewery I’ve wanted to try more of in recent months so I will certainly be trying out their other offerings. I’ve noticed they do a Solero flavoured sour beer at the moment which certainly peaks my interest.
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
