While also brewing Asda’s own-brand range, BAD Co, have some of their own brews in the supermarket giant. Most of them seem to be part of a range called ‘Off-Tempo’. This particular entry into the series is a Milkshake IPA. As such a hefty dose of lactose has been added to this beer in the hope of giving it a creamier, smoother texture.
Visually the beer pours a hazy gold colour with a fluffy, light white head. The nose is particularly fruity, with lots of mango and pineapple coming through. The flavour is fairly decent too. Notes of papaya are there but primarily it is a citrus flavour that is present. You certainly notice the lactose particularly on the back end where it provides not only a creaminess but also a fruity sourness to finish the beer off.
A quick note on the can art: Pretty simple design with not much to say. Although I can see it catching the attention of someone walking past the beer aisle.
Compared to the West Coast IPA I had from BAD Co not that long ago, this is certainly a step up. The highlight is certainly the nose which is jam packed with great, fruity smells. The body of beer is certainly nothing to turn you nose up at either. Good, solid citrus flavours paired with the creaminess from the added lactose works well. However, I’m personally not a big fan of that slightly sour milk/fruit combo at the end. I think it’s a slightly jarring change in taste when compared to the rest of the beer. But on the whole not bad at £2.20 a can.
