Beer Review: Steady Rolling Man – DEYA Brewing Company

Today’s beer comes from DEYA who are considered one of the UK’s best craft brewers. From what I’ve seen regarding ‘Steady Rolling Man’ it is accepted as one of the quintessential examples of a pale ale. So when the opportunity came to pick it up from Premier Hop I felt obligated to! It comes in at a steady 5.2% ABV in an uncharacteristically large, 500ml can.

Visually the beer is a hazy, pale straw colour with a lovely thick white head. It’s got a light but fruity nose with hints of passion fruit, mango and pineapple. A supremely soft mouthfeel on the first sip accompanied by a crisp, light mango flavour. Very refreshing and easy drinking with a classic soft and moreish bitter finish.

A quick note on the can art: According to DEYA this beer was inspired by tasty, hoppy beers while listening to blues classics. I think the lovely stylised artwork portrays both these aspects very well!

‘Steady Rolling Man’ has certainly lived up to the hype of a very good pale. What is great about this beer, for me, is how light but still packed with flavour it is. It’s has just the lightest touch of hop bitterness on the end to provide a balance to the main body. Very crisp and refreshing it’s the perfect beer for the summer sun. You could easily find yourself a few cans deep with out realising it. Both DEYA beers I’ve had have been fantastic and I’ll be on the lookout for more.

Score: 9/10

  1. Sold – I’m getting on the case with Deya asap. BTW, have you ever tried Double-Barrelled in Reading? They sell a couple of different mixed case options and I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve had so far.

    1. That’s very weird as a friend from Reading mentioned Double-Barrelled to me just two days ago!!! Will have to see about grabbing myself a mixed case by the looks of it! Let me know what you think about DEYA as well 🍻
