Beer Review: It’s Great Up North – Northern Monk

Nothing clears up running out of beer like more beer. And there are few better beers than a Northern Monk. This is another from their range at Morrisons which usually knocks it out of the park. ‘It’s Great Up North’ is a pale ale coming in at 4.5% ABV so will be looking for something similar to their amazing ‘Faith’.

Pours a pale gold with a light white head. The nose of the beer is an amazing citrus tropical blend that I feel is slowly becoming synonymous with a Northern Monk pale ale. Has a great juicy flavour to it. The citrus really comes through in the body and there is a moreish hop bitterness on the finish.

A quick note on the can art: A bit different from the usual Northern Monk style. The photo doesn’t do it justice but in a light grey, on the can, is the outline of a city skyline which I imagine is Leeds. But even in all black this is going to attract your attention in the shops.

I mean it’s another cracker from the folks at Northern Monk in my opinion. More importantly it’s a cracker you can get in the supermarket and at an even cheaper price than typical 440ml cans. Packed full of flavour and incredibly easy drinking at 4.5% ABV it’s one of the best session craft beer options in Morrisons. Certainly makes me want to head up to their taproom in Leeds and try some of their non-supermarket beers!

Score: 8.5/10

Thanks for reading! Cheers!
