I thought I’d make the most of the snowy weather to get some cool beer photos! The first beer to brave the cold was from my local brewery Pretty Decent. True to their word they have in fact released another beer this week. It’s part of a new Single Hop Series they’ve cooked up. Their first highlighted hop is Simcoe in an IPA style. It comes in at 6% ABV.
Pours a hazy, marmalade colour with a big off-white head. Quite a light nose overall with just hints of pineapple and tropical fruits in the background. The flavour on the other hand is certainly present. A light tropical flavour in the form of lychee rather than your typical fruits. Kveik yeast provides a farmhouse ale style sharpness that compliments the flavours well. Soft mouthfeel and smooth drinking on the finish.
A quick note on the can art: Might be my new favourite colour scheme from the Pretty Decent cans. The salmon pink links up well with the lychee flavours in the beer.
I’m getting a bit worried for my wallet because if Pretty Decent keep bringing out a solid brew like this every week I’m going to have to keep picking them up. I don’t always agree with a brewery’s own flavour descriptions but they are dead on with the lychee for my tastes. As with their recent beers, they are always more drinkable than they have a right to be considering the ABV. I also think they have been balancing the acidity from the yeast strain very well recently. I will probably grab myself another can!
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
