After a very long and stressful weekend at work I’ve actually not drunk very much alcohol at all! And wanting to keep posting no/low alcohol beers on a Monday I gave another one a try. My Dad is a big fan of Wold Top Brewery, for their gluten free selection, and bought me their low alcohol pale ale to try. ‘Intuition’ is under 0.5% ABV and is both gluten free and vegan. arguably making it the healthiest beer I’ve tried to date.
Visually the beer is clear amber on the pour with a quickly dissipating head. The aroma is heavy on the malts with a sweetness and touches of citrus as well. Not a weak flavour by any stretch and a half decent body. The predominant taste is a grapefruit citrus bitterness but there is also a peppery hit mixed in as well. Very hoppy throughout and particularly bitter on the back end too.
A quick note on the bottle art: A really good label I think, particularly when I compare it to other no/low beers. Well drawn owl with a full moon behind and complimented by gold accents around the edge.
Wold Top’s normal beers are top drawer in my mind, with their Marmalade Porter one of my favourite dark beers. ‘Intuition’ isn’t half bad on the whole and a damn sight better than many other no/low alcohol beers I’ve tried. For me however, I found that it was far too bitter, particularly on the finish. Subsequently, I think some of those core flavours were a little lost. That said the body was solid and I wouldn’t turn my nose up to having another. If you adore a really strong bitterness in your brews then this might be the one for you. Also at £1.26 a bottle on their website, it’s got to be one of the cheapest no/low beers available out their in the UK.
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
