One of my lovely friends and colleagues at work got me some beer for Christmas, one of which included my favourite South West brewery, the Falmouth based Verdant! ‘The Future is Uncertain’ is an 8% DIPA featuring a triple drop of New Zealand’s finest hops; Motueka, Nelson Sauvin and (a new one for me) Waimea.
Visually, the beer looks absolutely insane. Pure mango juice looking haze with a great head. Amazing aroma as well with tonnes of peach and apricot coming through by the buckets. The flavour is absolutely identical to the nose. All those stone fruits but also providing a great fruit salad medley of mango, pineapple and citrus. While the body is super soft and creamy, there is a nice bitter bite to the finish as well.
A quick note on the can art: A funky stylised, wavy way to write the name of the beer. I always love purple and mustard yellow together. An underrated colour combination.
While in reality, the Future is truly uncertain, I can tell you there is nothing uncertain about the quality of this brew. I know Verdant get a lot of hype, but at their core the beers simply taste amazing. And this is no different. All those classic New England, tropical fruit flavours are present from start to finish. It doesn’t hide it’s booze at all but the body is very well balanced on the tongue. A dreamy drink, that you can only imagine how good it could be when had fresh from the keg!
Score: 9.5/10
